Hard work is no stranger to Los Angeles-based Christian, straightedge, pop/dance/hip-hop artist Lancifer.

From buying a one-way ticket to Nashville from small-town Sheridan, Wyoming after his junior year in high school with less than $100 in his pocket to performing for crowds all over the world including arenas in Germany and hospitals in Thailand; from a string of swaggy, boss-baller music videos with front flips and stunt fight scenes in the back of U-hauls to writing and producing his own multi-genre original music; from sneaking into the Golden Globe awards to winning MTV reality shows; from seamlessly moving from dance choreography to rockin a synthesizer solo… he kills the game.

And, yes, that was one sentence.

Now coming to the stage to answer Sheridan Brand’s 5 Questions, give it up for Lancifer.

SB: What drew you to writing music – what inspired you to make music?

Lancifer: Just always loved so many different kinds of music. B Spears to smooth jazz to christian metal experiences with youth group. It was a combination of things – I’d say God, travel, and experiences, Playing jazz, death metal in Sheridan. Nowadays, it has a lot to do with the traveling. Inspired by traveling experiences. A lot of it comes from making beats and playing piano and making really cool instrumentals and hard hip hop beats.

SB: Favorite concert you’ve played – favorite place to travel to?

Lancifer: I think Sweden – every year I play a show in Sweden just outside of Stockholm called Frizonfest. It’s basically a bunch of stages in the middle of a wheat field in paradise and a bunch of unrealistically good looking and super down to earth people. And they always let me do something crazy like light a fire and roast some s’mores on stage in the middle of my concert. But I also love traveling to unique places like Thailand where many artists don’t go.

SB: When did you realize you could make this your living?

Lancifer: It was never really about making it a living. It was more just my lifestyle. I just wanted to make music, travel and make friends with people. That’s progressed and turned into bigger things in the years. But it really keeps coming back to that. Sometimes it’s a lot of work, much like an office job, but it pays off when I get to just enjoy life’s great experiences. It allows me to see the world and live my life to the fullest.

SB: Any advice to aspiring musicians?

Lancifer: Be prepared to work 19 hours a day 7 days a week for 10 years while sleeping on someone named Spike’s couch… Do it for the right reasons, work hard, and be original – just keep it real and be yourself. #HatersGonnaHate

SB: What keeps bringing you back to Sheridan?

Lancifer: It’s my home, my roots and it’s where the people that supported me growing up and have always been there for me throughout the years live. It’s always nice to come back here and relax a little bit and also work on a few projects with Flood Marketing. And of course, I’m always down for a game of no-touch-the-ground tag at Kendrick Park.

Don’t miss his concert coming up on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Best Western Sheridan Center. Doors open at 6:30pm, the show starts at 7pm and be sure to pick up his new CD at the show.
