~CONTENT POWERED BY GREATER WYOMING BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS~

Luka Sol is a dj solo project by Los Angeles based artist Shawn Day. By way of Wyoming, London, and now Los Angeles, Day has been recording with Courtney Ballard (Madden Bros) and Jared Poythress (Vindata) at Crossroads of the World. Physical, the first single, was released on October 9th, 2015 and the follow up, Unknown Ft. Natalie M, was released on March 11, 2016.

SB: You’ve been making music for a while now with different groups and in different genres. How has your solo career been with Luka Sol?

Shawn Day: It’s given me a sense of artistic freedom that I’ve never experienced before. My career as a solo artist was inspired by the underground dj scene in Los Angeles. I was attracted to the independence and there was a compatibility there with my love for traveling and seeing the world and performance. There is so much incredible new music right now and dj’ing is my medium for discovering it, bringing it to the people, and keeping my ear to the ground.

SB: Your new single, “Unknown” Ft. Natalie M is out now. What’s the meaning/inspiration behind “Unknown?

Shawn Day: Mystery and anonymity. I feel like the title speaks to both Natalie and I as artists. It’s very difficult to make yourself “known” in a music industry that’s flooded with so much content daily and I’m attracted to the power of the “unknown”.
SB: How was working with Natalie M?

Shawn Day: Natalie’s amazing. Her voice, her vibe. Incredibly easy and fun to work with. I met her in 2014. We were hired to sing a Pharell cover at a wedding in Wyoming. We’ve been discussing production for her next EP.

SB: What inspired you to bring her in?

Shawn Day: Her voice. It caught my ear the first time I heard it. So clear and crystalline. And I thought it would work really well with dance music. Plus, I’ve got Sol Studio, my private studio in downtown Sheridan so it’s convenient for us to work together when I’m in town which has been very frequent these last 3 years. I love Wyoming. It really feels like a writing retreat for me and it’s great to take a break from the city. Plus, I have the most amazing friends and support there 🙂
SB: What can we expect from Shawn Day/Luka Sol over the next year?

Shawn Day: My vision for the project is to continue soft releasing singles over the next 6-12 months and hopefully, play Coachella, Ultra, and hit some European dance festivals. I’m intrigued by Miami.

Support our local artists. Give “Unknown” Ft. Natalie M a listen. If you like it, buy it. We aren’t too fond of pirates here.
