Any Food Network fans out there? Well we’ve got a real life Iron Chef, or something similar at least, coming to Sheridan! This week at the Sheridan Farmers Market, the 2nd Annual Chef Throw-Down Competition will take place! That’s at 5:00p on Thursday, September 17, at Grinnell Plaza. You can join the event Right Here, on its Facebook page! Here’s the gist:
The showdown will feature five amazing chefs: Cole Evans of Frackelton’s, Antonia Armenta-Miller of The Cato Ranch, Kaleb Heidt of The Tunnel Inn, Tye Bach of The Pony Grill & Bar, and Caleb Steenhoek of Two-Bits Catering Company!! The throw-down will highlight fresh, local products available at the Farmers’ Market, while promoting fresh, local chef talent. The contest is limited to local area Chefs, who are provided a cooking space and allowed to bring a basic pantry, along with their own cooking tools.
At 4:30pm they will be given a common secret ingredient and thirty-five dollars and 15 minutes to procure ingredients from the market, to prepare their best farm to plate dish. Judging begins at 5:45pm. A panel of judges will score each Chef’s entry, based on Plating, Originality/Creativity & Taste. The winning submission will win $100 cash, $100 Gift Certificate to Cottonwood Kitchen Shop, a trophy and will get to keep the prestigious traveling trophy for the year. The market will have over 40 vendors, and music by Bill Heide.
