Coffee with a Cop

“It’s meant to break down barriers. We want people to be able to feel like they can come out and talk to us,” said Sergeant Jerry Rasmussen of the Sheridan Police Department in regards to Coffee with a Cop: a program wherein the people of Sheridan can come grab a cup of joe and speak openly and honestly with our boys in blue. A national program practiced in many states, it’s meant to bridge the gap between everyday citizen and law enforcement. There have been several of these events held, with the last being this Wednesday at Andis. This is especially relevant in light of the standoff at the very same establishment that ended peacefully on September 3rd. Said Rasmussen, “It’s kind of funny, we’ve had a number of these before and it’s been pretty successful. With this added context, we really want people to be able to voice their opinions, concerns, or just join us for some coffee.” Along with Sgt. Rasmussen, who enjoyed a hearty strawberry smoothie, were a Lieutenant Koltiska and Chief Adriaens. The three sat down and spoke with many who came in to ask questions, exchange stories, and more often than not express gratitude. This is part of what makes Sheridan such a close-knit, unified community. We look forward to attending more “Coffee with a Cop”s and seeing its effect on the relationship Sheridan has with the people who serve her.
