A mere list of athletic accolades? Try a book.

When it comes to accomplishments, Sheridan’s Robbi Ryan has acquired many. Her most recent: being named the Wyoming Gatorade Player of the year for women’s basketball.

An all-state athlete in volleyball, soccer, and basketball, she continues to lead multiple Sheridan High School teams to consecutive successful seasons.

The youngest of five, 17-year old Robbi has more than climbed out from the shadow of her athletic older siblings; she’s emerged as one of the best athletes SHS has seen in years. Not only that, but her incredible talents have gained her opportunities that many Wyoming athletes never receive. From playing in the Chicago Nike National Invitation Tournament with the Colorado Premier Basketball Club to being invited twice to the U17 Olympic trials for women’s basketball, she has set herself apart from her peers.

The best part about Robbi? She has another year left! However, college coaches from top basketball programs around the country have wasted no time recruiting her. The calls started pouring in earlier this past school year. After getting invites to visit campuses such as University of Nebraska, Cal Berkley, Colorado University, and many more, Robbi weighed her options and made her decision: Arizona State University. We were lucky enough to sit down (something Robbi probably doesn’t do often) with the future Sun Devil and get a deeper look in this installment of Sheridan Brand’s 5 Questions.

SB: Why ASU?

RR: The people, the players, the atmosphere, the coaches. A lot of it had to do with how I felt when I was there. I went to several places, but after I got done with my official visit to ASU, I was just really excited. It was the only thing on my mind. Another thing that had a big part in my decision was that the head coach, Charli Turner Thorne, already believed in me so much, and I hadn’t even committed yet. It was just an awesome feeling. I just think that it’s a great program with a holistic approach. Their players are more than just players, they’re people too.

SB: What role did your older siblings play in your success in sports?

RR: I think they played a major role, especially when I was younger even if I didn’t realize it. They never took it easy on me. They were always beating me up and stuff. I always tried to keep up with them and do what they did even though I was so much younger than them. They just pushed me to get better and strengthen my skills in whatever I did.

SB: What do you do on your days off?

RR: Hang out with friends. I like going to the lake and boating. I love the mountains and going camping.

SB: There’s always room to improve when it comes to basketball. What do you plan on working on between now and your final season as a Bronc?

RR: Probably shooting and being more consistent. And that comes with just being in the gym more and shooting more, which is hard to do when you play other sports and have other things going on. I also plan on working on my three-pointers.

SB: What’s the one thing you think you’ll miss most about Sheridan?

RR: The people. And also the town. I love the mountains, and the small community, but I think the people here are awesome and all really supportive. Overall, Sheridan is just great.

Two days after our sit down with Robbi, she went on to lead the Sheridan Lady Broncs to a 2nd place finish at the Wyoming state soccer tournament. What’s even more impressive is the fact that she turned down her second invitation to the U17 women’s basketball Olympic trials just so she wouldn’t miss the tournament. That’s Wyoming dedication.
