As we all know, gambling is not legal here in Wyoming; however, the folks at Antelope Butte have found the next best thing. They’re having a gear swap at Coffeen Elementary this Saturday at 10am. What is a gear swap, you ask? It’s an event which consists of you bringing all your well-loved and unused gear, and others doing the same from the community, to be swapped with no cash exchanged. Bartering at its finest.
Seriously, it’s a pretty sweet event that provides you the chance to purge your throwaway closet, clear out your dusty attic, and even rid yourself of centuries-old pirate chest of all its merriment and wonder — for a chance to score something you might actually use. You may want to save your treasure chest for the Antiques Roadshow, but that old backpack from your college years or that pair of skis your daughter grew out of could use a new loving home.
You could get a steal-of-a-deal on some never before worn rugged boots, or you could end up with someone’s sweaty old knapsack with forgotten love letters accidentally left in the side pouch. Happening in parallel with the gear swap, Antelope Butte is also facilitating workshops this Saturday at Coffeen Elementary, during which you can learn about everything from survival tips to safe skiing, which should, ideally, prolong your survival and perhaps lower your insurance premiums.
Basically, Antelope Butte wants you to not only to have cool swag for ski season, but also ensure you live to see the next year’s swap and ski season. Seems pretty considerate if you ask us. More specifics can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
