Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization that works to help children realize their potential through a supportive and nurturing environment. Older, often teenage role models are paired with young boys and girls in need, or in search of guidance. The Sheridan chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters has a proud history of matching Littles with their respective Bigs.

The aim of Big Brothers Big Sisters, according to SHS senior and Big, Brock Gransbery, is “to get people who might not be interested in school for whatever reason, you know, maybe they don’t like what they’re learning, or maybe they’re not too psyched on the people they’re around… just kind of a chance for them to be put with someone who can help them, or with someone who has similar interests. Ultimately, we just wanna make their day better.” For Gransbery, a day with his Little consists of talking about school and cartoons, before playing with trucks and legos.
The children aren’t the only ones who get something from the program, as fellow Senior and Big, Robbi Ryan explained, “Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about bettering someone’s life. A lot of people, you know, they think that it’s just the Bigs responsibility to help out their little brother or sister, but in the end we get a lot from it. Almost more than they do, at some point.” The most memorable aspect of her time with BBBS, according to Ryan, was the time her Little first opened up to her. “It was the first time we actually became close. I think I’ll remember that for a long time.”
