Tom Brokaw once said “If fishing is a religion, then fly-fishing is the high church”. We here at Sheridan Brand are inclined to agree, and so is Peter Widener, new owner of Fly Shop of the Big Horns and the man putting on the Streamer Social Event October 10th . Said Peter “It’s super trendy and a lot of fun. I kinda just want to bring a new style and maybe even perspective on fly fishing to Sheridan, where I don’t think using giant flies has really taken. We have two great guys who are funny as can be who really will help the fly fishers of Sheridan acclimate”. Along with Mr. Widener are the two men who will be showing any attending Sheridanites how to tie a top-notch fly are two fly a-fish-ionados: Chad Johnson and Alex Lafkas. The former is a born and raised Mississippian and sold his business and moved out of his hometown to pursue a career in flyfishing. The latter hails from the faraway land of Northern Michigan and pursued a college education in Montana, where not even the allure of academia could keep him from his passion.
What if we asked you “What’s better than a fly tying demo event with fun, friends, and prizes like a new fishing rod, sunglasses, and chances to win one of 3 guided fishing trips?” you would probably say “Wow that’s an incredibly specific question,” and you’d be right. However, the correct answer is, of course, beer. In collaboration with the Black Tooth Brewing Co. and in coordination with Oktoberfest, you can receive a free drink chip when you stop by the Streamer Social Event. Tom Brokaw also once said, “If I were in Sheridan, WY on October 10th I would totally go down to Fly Shop of the Bighorns to enjoy awesome free stuff and then go get my drink on!” We may be paraphrasing a bit on that last one, but the sentiment remains intact.
