Here’s a quote from the man himself:
“Sometime in 1984 I got the idea to build a bit…. I made the shanks out of scrap Hobie Cat sailboat parts.. The next day I decided I wanted a pair of spurs so I abandoned the unfinished bit. I recently found the shanks in my barn and yesterday I welded in a mouthpiece… It took awhile but my first bit is finally finished! It turned out pretty good.”
